Three delegations taking the floor before the adoption of Serbia's resolution on Kosovo were against the unilateral declaration of independence and supported dialogue continuation.

Three delegations taking the floor before the adoption of Serbia's resolution on Kosovo were against the unilateral declaration of independence and supported dialogue continuation.

Azerbaijan's representative said that his country has a stand of principle that unilateral declaration of independence could not be an acceptable way for resolving territorial issues, that territorial integrity of each state should be respected and that unilateral secessions should not be permitted.

Azerbaijan's firm position was that the only way for reaching a just settlement was through an approach based on the full respect for international law.

Venezuela's representative said his government considered the unilateral declaration by Kosovo's authorities a violation of Resolution 1244 (1999) because it does not respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia.

He also said that it is in discord with previous resolutions 1160, 1199 and 1203 of 1988 and Resolution 1239 of 1999.

The representative of Argentine supported the proposed resolution saying that in Kosovo's case Security Council resolution 1244 clearly sets legal and political parameters, but that the opinion of the ICJ was also important.
