Easter is a fusion of religion and tradition. It started on Holy Thursday even before sunrise with the dying of the first three Easter eggs red.
The Easter egg is as old as Christianity and the Church has accepted it as part of its tradition and practice, being a symbol of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The early Christians and contemporaries of the apostles started to dye eggs and to hand them out for Easter uttering the joyous greeting "Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed".
Red is a symbol of victory. Its significance on Easter is that the Lord Jesus Christ has won a victory over death by resurrecting. Red represents the strength and power of God as well as his blood that he shed for the salvation of all people on Earth. Thus, the dye of the egg reminds us of the blood of Jesus and salvation.
A series of services are held during Holy Week, which leads up to Easter Sunday.
