Halal (conforming to Islamic rules) food is seeing double-digit growth the world over and even in Italy - due to rising interest by companies in the sector - it could soon become normal to find ''Islamically correct'' labelled products on supermarket shelves.

''The development potential of this market,'' said Hamid Roberto Distefano, the managing director of Halal Italia, an agency authorising Islamic certification of firms and products, ''is around 4 or 5 billion euros.''
Since the label was brought in a year ago on the initiative of Co.re.is. (Islamic Religious Community), sponsored by the Foreign, Economic Development, Health and Agricultural Policies ministries, 30 small and large enterprises have been certified and the same number are undergoing the procedure to do so.
''It is a move,'' Distefano said at a meeting organised by Promos today at the Milan Chamber of Commerce,'' that many are making especially in relation to exports, even though enterprises are discovering a domestic market made up of 1.5 million Muslim citizens, Today, if they want to eat strictly halal food they stock up for the most part in small shops which often become ghettos.
In this sense certification can aid integration by fostering the sharing of space and a shared consumption culture.'' The phenomenon does not only concern tortellini and sausages.
To the contrary: ''We have begun to certify also cosmetics and pharmaceutical enterprises,'' said the managing director, ''a sector which is growing internationally by 30%, double that of halal food.''

Very good! It is an indication of the growing Muslim population!! Welcome the culture of the uncivilized Nomads too because it is superiors to yours.

Islam is a religion of peace. Islam itself means peace. It does not preach to cause bloodshed, terror and crimes against women. If you really want to know about what Islam says about women, then get a translation of the Quran and read the Chapter (Nisa or Women). When I go shopping, I read the labels and if it says halal I put it back on the shelf. Having seen footage of how cattle are slaughtered in Indonesia, and sheep killed in Kuwait and Egypt, I want nothing to do with halal. Islam is so barbaric and uncivilised and so are its followers.

The word 'Islam' has a combined meaning of peace and submission. Halal food is scientifically proven to be the more humanistic method of killing cattle, as opposed to any other form of kiling method, such as means of electricution which causes excessive pain and brain damage before animal's dying. Reference to Indonesia's slaughter method is unfair, they are not a fully-developed country like Europe to be compared in standards of hygiene. Maybe it's worth questioning Europe's part in world capitalism which undermines under-developed countries.
As for the views of a blood-shed-(..and all the other horrible things said)-Islam, well it's worth getting a thorough understanding of a people's history and teachings properly, especially when these people make up around one third of the world's population. Maybe it's worth doing some genuine, unbiased research of these 1.7 billion people, from every background, culture, race and ethnicity, possibly through proper academic means instead of 'the current western media', which is either fully pollitically motivated or money motivated, and where there is no space for a genuine response from the defendant (Muslims and Islam).
Muslims should also be more sensible and not respond to foul-criticism by means of more foul-criticism. And retaliation with more retaliation. We need to understand that we are all humans, and if animals of the jungles and the forest, being of enormous different species, can live together in harmony then why can't we, being the same species, live together in harmony. And be humans.
