The Law on Pharmaceuticals has set August 1 2009 as the date after which a local producer of medicaments will not be allowed to market their products unless they comply with the GMP Standard worth around EUR 100 million.

On the other hand, the price of pharmaceuticals in Serbia is around 42 percent of their price in referential countries – Croatia, Slovenia and Italy, which poses the question whether they are financially viable enough to abide by the Law. The Law on Pharmaceuticals states that by 2009 the price of pharmaceuticals in Serbia should reach 80 percent of corresponding products in the referential countries. The only problem is what goals are realistic to achieve in this ambitious timeframe.
