The Slovenian government adopted on Thursday the Declaration on the Western Balkans and the guidelines for Slovenia's activities aimed at strengthening the relations and boosting cooperation with the region.
Foreign Minister Samuel Zbogar said the declaration highlighted the Western Balkans as Slovenia's priority.
The Slovenia's position for Western Balkan countries and their admission to the EU and NATO is presented in the declaration, Zbogar said.
The document foresees establishment of special committee for the Western Balkan countries which will compose action plan for Slovenia's activities in the countries from the region. Also national coordinator will be appointed that will supervise activities of Slovenia in FYRMacedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and Kosovo.
Slovenia on March 20 will host the conference on Western Balkans in Brdo near Kranj. The conference would be the first time in 18 years that all heads of state of the former Yugoslavia met in a single meeting.
Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor said that getting "Serbia and Kosovo to participate" in the EU-Balkan summit “appears to be an impossible mission”.
“But, there are many who believe that if someone can do it, we can. Our success is not guaranteed, we are working on it,” Pahor said.
