The policemen specialised in combating organised crime dismantled 149 criminal groups in the seven months of 2010, by 15.5 percent more on Jan.-July last year.

The policemen specialised in combating organised crime dismantled 149 criminal groups in the seven months of 2010, by 15.5 percent more on Jan.-July last year, the Romanian Police General Inspectorate announced on Sunday.

As many as 1,128 persons were prosecuted, a 25 percent rise from the seven months of 2009, with 492 persons being currently remanded in custody.

Fifty of those criminal groups were dealing in drugs trafficking and 39 did money laundering. Another 35 dealt in trafficking in persons and 25 in cyber-crime.

The police officers seized 260.904 kilograms of drugs, of which 187.623 kg of high-risk drugs (cocaine, heroin, amphetamine), 73.281 kg of risk drugs (cannabis, hashish) and 323,867 pills. Their market values is put at more than six million euros.
