Hague tribunal Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz on Oct. 18, in Sarajevo, called for increased efforts to apprehend war crimes fugitive Ratko Mladic and turn him over to the international court.

He made the statement after meeting with Valentin Inzko, high representative in Bosnia-Herzegovina, who informed him about political developments in the country.

Inzko said little progress had been made on unresolved issues related to war crimes, and that regional cooperation in the criminal prosecution of war crimes was still of key importance to truth and justice.

Brammertz also met with Haris Silajdzic and Nebojsa Radmanovic, members of the Bosnian Presidency.

He said cooperation would speed up the arrest of fugitives, adding that the international community and countries in the region had to do more in that respect. He further stated that even after the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia closes its doors, there would be mechanisms to succeed it.

The reason for Brammertz's visit to Bosnia is preparation for his regular semi-annual report to the U.N. Security Council on the ICTY's cooperation with countries in the region. Brammertz will leave Sarajevo for a two-day visit to Zagreb.
