A new funding agreement between Romania and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) may be worth about EUR 5-6 billion, the Romanian newspaper Ziarul Financiar reported on Tuesday, citing government sources.
Romania's current EUR 20 billion bailout deal led by the IMF expires in March. Romanian officials said the country can afterwards seek a new bailout, which would be precautionary, meaning that Bucharest would only use the funds in dire need.
The value of the new agreement, which would be essential for regaining investors’ trust, could rise up to EUR 8 billion, Reuters cited the Romanian newspaper.
