Anti-government protests in Zagreb, Croatia, ended Wednesday evening, when about 2,000 protesters, who were gathered in front of the building where Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor lives and which was surrounded by police cordons, peacefully dispersed with an announcement that they will return on Friday.
Prior to sieging the building, the protesters walked across the city and successfully avoided police blockages.
After the gathering at the Flower Square and an attempt to reach the seat of the government in St. Mark's square, the protesters headed for the building in which the premises of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) are located, where they tore down and ripped the HDZ's flag.
The demonstrators burned the flag in front of the seat of the Social Democratic Party of Croatia and tried to remove the coat of arms of the Croatian Peasant Party.
The gathering at Petar Preradovic square was attended by about 500 mainly young people, and the number increased to 5,000 during the walk across the city.
Members of the Green Party, students and professors at the Faculty of Philosophy, and activists of several non-government organizations are staging protests due to the dissatisfaction over the economic and political situation in Croatia.
