On the occasion of the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held on Sunday, June 5th, 2011, the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, sends the following message to the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia.
Respected citizens,
In the year when we mark two decades of independence and a decade since the Ohrid Framework Agreement was signed, in the year when we expect to continue the European and Euro-Atlantic integrations, my sincere hope and plea to all of you is, on Sunday, June 5th, to reaffirm our democratic maturity, do confirm our commitment to the Euro-Atlantic values and to celebrate democracy.
On Sunday, the citizens should cast their votes for those candidates who will be representing them in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia in the next four years, for those who, on your behalf, shall bring decisions on what Macedonia should achieve in view of realization of our strategic goals. On Sunday, the power is in your hands. It is your day. You are to decide.
I appeal that you should do this with dignity, in a free and democratic atmosphere. We have proven in many occasions throughout these two decades that we are equal to many other democratic countries. Today, I cannot accept anything else but fair, democratic, free and just elections.
No one in our country has the right, guided by narrow interest, to put the interests of the people and of the country in pledge. Every one who would dare violate the electoral rules, every one who would jeopardize the interests and the perspectives of the citizens and of the country, shall face the strongest possible institutional and social response.
