At the close of the European Council summit meeting on Friday in Brussels, President Traian Basescu assured that not a single penny of the European structural funds for Romania will be directed to Greece.
'Not a single penny of the European structural funds for Romania will be directed to the Greeks. To Romania, clarifications over the EU assistance to Greece has a big stake, probably the biggest stake at this council summit as far as we are concerned, because in Romania there are seven Greek banks that have a nearly 27-percent share in the Romanian banking market. That is why we have voiced unreserved support for Greece,' said Basescu.
He underscored that Romania is hopefully expecting the decision of the Greek Parliament to pass a restructuring and austerity programme for the Greeks.'Romania has been a consistent supporter of Greece from this point of view,' said Basescu, quoted by Agerpres correspondent.
He added that the European Council agreed that if the Greek Parliament passes the new package of reforms, the European Union will continue its assistance toBulgaria, Romania monitoring inspires new Schengen rules
