In October 2010, the sugar refinery began work, after almost two decades of hiatus, however, in April of this year the production stopped because of an alleged affair with money laundry of Montenegrin fugitive drug boss Darko Saric.

Even after today's meeting in Banja Luka, there was no solution for the Bijeljina sugar refinery.

The Government of RS, led by Prime Minister Aleksandar Dzombic received the delegation of the factory, representatives of agricultural cooperative "Jankovci", the union of agriculture and representatives of sugar farmers.

Dzombic said that the government was committed, in accordance with existing laws, to find a model that would be acceptable to all parties in the negotiations, with the ultimate goal to make the factory operational as soon as possible.

In October 2010, the sugar refinery began work, after almost two decades of hiatus, however, in April of this year the production stopped because of an alleged affair with money laundry of Montenegrin fugitive drug boss Darko Saric.

It was preceded by the police action "Machine" in which the police arrested Zoran Copic (45), associated with a fugitive drug lord Darko Saric and suspected of laundering about 14 million KM through his companies in RS, including the Bijeljina sugar refinery.

On the order of the court, the assets were blocked which brought new uncertainty for workers and subcontractors.

Meanwhile, the Agricultural Cooperative "Jankovci" in Croatia, which invested in Bijeljina sugar refinery about 14 million KM and under a contract with company "Agrokop", majority shareholder of the sugar refinery, they sought from the RS government a guarantee that, after court proceeding, they would own 63.74 percent of shares, which could not be confirmed by the RS.

Workers and subcontractors who produce sugar beets are concerned about their fate and the fate of the factory.

Some 200 employees and their families hope that the status of the factory would be cleared.

They have not received salaries for the past five months, even though they regularly come to work.
