According to preliminary reports, the detained contraband cigarettes at Varna port amount to 936 master boxes. This was announced by the head of the Varna Customs Agency, Vanyo Tanov, who visited the port together with PM Boyko Borissov.

The cigarettes are from various brands and their approximate value on the illegal market amounts to 1.5 to 2 million leva.

The ship onboard which the cigarettes were discovered set off from Dubai and sails under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda.

Tanov added that since the start of the year, Bulgarian police has detained 25 times more smuggled cigarettes than last year.
