A new wave of high snowfall, strong winds and low temperatures has once again created problems in the region, blocking traffic and causing problems in electricity supply.

A new wave of high snowfall, strong winds and low temperatures has once again created problems in the region, blocking traffic and causing problems in electricity supply.

Snow, accompanied by strong gusts of wind, has been falling in Montenegro, which caused new problems in terms of traffic. The Montenegrin airport closed down late on Friday, and railway traffic has been interrupted, while road traffic is almost completely blocked. The snowstorm has so far claimed three lives in Montenegro.

In Bosnia-Herzegovina and Republika Srpska, fresh snow is falling and causing drifts up to 40 centimetres high, SRNA news agency reported. In the meantime, traffic in Sarajevo is hindered by bad weather and has slowed down due to snow, and the snowfall late on Friday caused new problems for citizens of villages around Srebrenica and on-duty road maintenance services, FENA news agency reported.

Croatia is also afflicted by heavy snowfall which did not spare even the seaside regions. Southern Istria is covered by snow and the heaviest snowfall was recorded in the area around Pula. Hurricane storms and ice caused failures in electricity plants in north-western areas of the Zadar County, where around 6.000 people were left without electricity.

Dalmatia is also covered by snow, including Dubrovnik and the Lastovo Island. An avalanche in Macedonia swept over three passenger vehicles on the road from Mavrovo to Debar but nobody was injured in the incident, MIA agency reported.
