The former owner of Mobtel, Bogoljub Karic, did not ask or receive political asylum from the Russian Federation, Serbian Justice Minister Snezana Malovic stated.
Malovic told that a confirmation of this was received from the Russian Foreign Ministry. "There is still an outstanding Interpol warrant issued for Bogoljub Karic, requested by Serbia for an investigation of abuses in Mobtel," Malovic said.
Karic left Serbia in 2006, when an investigation was started in the Mobtel affair against Bogoljub, Dragomir, Sreten and Zoran Karic, and their sister Olivera Nedeljkovic.
They are charged for causing a EUR40 million damage to the state. Right after the affair became public, Bogoljub Karic left Serbia. It is assumed that he first spent some time in Montenegro, and then went to Russia.
