Serbia's public debt at the end of August was EUR 10.94 billion, which equals 36.3 percent of GDP, the Serbian Finance Ministry has stated.

At the end of 2009, the public debt was EUR 9.85 billion, which means that in the first eight months of 2010 it increased by about EUR 1.1 billion, the ministry stated on its website.

Serbia's public debt at the end of July 2010 was about EUR 10.74 billion, which means that it increased by EUR 200 million in August only. According to the report, Serbia's total direct liabilities at the end of August reached EUR 9.28 billion.

Serbia's internal debt reached EUR 4.24 billion, whereas the country's external debt accounted for EUR 5.04 billion, the report said. At the end of 2008, Serbia's public debt was EUR 8.78 billion, equalling 25.6 percent of GDP.
