Kraljevo resembles a huge reconstruction site on Sunday, as the army, police, firemen and repairmen from other cities in Serbia have joined in the reconstruction of buildings damaged in the earthquake which recently hit this central Serbia city.
Late on Wednesday, Kraljevo was hit by an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale, which was followed by 135 slighter quakes until Friday.
Repair works on apartment blocks, schools, healthcare centres and cultural institutions have begun, and the Kraljevo Emergency Centre called for volunteers to help remove rubble and waste.
A total of 115,000 pieces of tiles have so far been distributed from Serbia's buffer stock to help repair around 4,000 buildings damaged in the earthquake, and new shipments are being delivered regularly.
At this moment, Kraljevo urgently needs volunteers-craftsmen to help citizens with repairs. Nine trucks with food, water and hygiene means arrived to Kraljevo, and 265 family packages with food were distributed in villages.
Institute of Public Health Director dr Aleksandar Macan stated that definite estimation of tap water propriety will be made on Sunday after 10 p.m. when all the microbiological analyses are finished, and until then 18 cisterns of drinking water are brought for citizens to use.
In Kraljevo city’s official website are detailed instructions for those from abroad who wish to send some aid to the city.
