Serbian Army (VS) Chief of Staff Lt.Gen. Miloje Miletic arrived for a two-day visit to Vienna on Tuesday, where he conferred with his Austrian counterpart Gen. Edmund Entacher and Austrian Defence Minister Norbert Darabos.

The visit of VS delegation to Austria is primarily aimed at enhancing bilateral military cooperation between the Serbian and Austrian Armed Forces, Miletic told Tanjug and added that the two countries have so far maintained a very good military cooperation characterized by a high level of plan implementation.

The cooperation between the two countries' armies is excellent, and Serbian soldiers regularly participate in the Austrian Army training programmes and joint military exercises.

In the period from January to October 2010, Serbia and Austria implemented 32 joint activities, Miletic said and added that Austria's experiences are very important to Serbia because the two countries are of approximately the same size and because Austria is a member of the European Union, which Serbia hopes to become.

Miletic noted that Austria is implementing the UN Partnership for Peace programme and participates actively in peacekeeping missions, which are additional reasons why Serbia values Austria's experience.

The VS chief of staff added that the main topics discussed at the meeting with Austrian officials were all related to the two countries' cooperation, including training and officer education, exchange of experience and preparation for peacekeeping missions.

Serbia and Austria have a good cooperation in the domains of logistics and military medicine, in which Serbia's capacities are immense, Miletic said.
