Out of the documents published so far, only one relates to Kosovo and in it a French diplomat Jean David Levitte, in a meeting with US deputy secretary Phillip Gordon in September 2009, said EULEX is facing serious diplomatic problems with the Kosovo Government and the public after signing two cooperation protocols with Serbia.

Internet platform WikiLeaks is to publish in the coming months 250,000 classified messages that US embassies across the world conveyed to the US State Department.

Out of this number, 688 documents are said to relate to Kosovo and date back to 1996 through to February of this year.

The documents have been sent to Washington and contain details and opinions of US diplomats working in that region and include the period from 2000 to 2009.

Two of the documents have been marked as secret ones, 13 as confidential and 325 as generally confidential, 191 as for official use, while 191 have not been classified by the degree of confidentiality.

Koha Net assessed that the publication of those documents could create a boomerang effect for political parties in Kosovo that have been in power since 2004, as the documents contain a lot of information on corruption affairs and criminal activities.

Gordon on his part said Kosovo will accept protocols with Serbia but that it should be made clear to the Kosovo leadership that the agreements are technical in nature and don’t undermine Kosovo’s independence.

The paper adds that documents that will be published by WikiLeaks will also give information on the stances of many world countries on Kosovo’s independence.

In this regard, Qatar is said to be interested in recognizing Kosovo but that the Russian president urged the government not to rush into taking this decision.
