Serbian Culture Minister Nebojsa Bradic visited on Tuesday the gallery of the Museum of Natural History in Belgrade, which this year marks 115 years of work, and announced that 2011 would be the year of the beginning of comprehensive reforms in the field of the protection and care of cultural heritage, the Ministry of Culture announced.
“We have completed a major work on ratifying key international conventions in this area and thus set the foundation for the introduction of new principles, standards and norms. The value of cultural heritage and the role of institutions - especially the role of museums as promoters (of cultural heritage) - are part of the policy initiated by a national conference in the field of cultural heritage, its conclusions, and by the formation of the Central Institute for Conservation,” said Bradic.
He pointed out that museums are an integral part of the system of care for the cultural heritage and, together with the institutions for the protection of architectural and archaeological heritage, they carry the greatest social responsibility “for the future of our past.”
Bradic and Deputy Culture Minister for Cultural Heritage Dusica Zivkovic visited the current exhibition of the Museum of Natural History dubbed 'Green and Black - the Story of Tea' which was organized in collaboration with the Museum of Applied Arts.
