The European Commission will probably officially inform the Serbian government next week of its stand regarding the amendments to the Excise Duty Law, European Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele's spokesperson Anca Paduraru told Tanjug Friday.

The European Commission will probably officially inform the Serbian government next week of its stand regarding the amendments to the Excise Duty Law, European Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele's spokesperson Anca Paduraru told Tanjug Friday.

The European Commission is currently preparing an answer to the Serbian Finance Ministry to its question whether the amendments constitute a violation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) and it will probably be ready next week, Paduraru said.

She could not, however, say what the stand will be.

A few days ago, Serbian Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic asked the European Commission delegation in Belgrade for an official stance on whether the amendments to the Excise Tax Law, specifically the section on oil derivatives, violate EU directives and the SAA.

Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic said Wednesday that the Excise Tax Law will be urgently changed, if the EU responds that Serbia's excise rates violate European directives and SAA.
