Deputy Prime Minister for European integration Bozidar Djelic stated today that over the upcoming period, all the necessary measures will be taken to reduce the number of false asylum seekers and prevent few thousands of people to abuse the visa-free regime and thus jeopardise the freedom of movement for the entire nation.

Djelic stated that a letter Belgium sent to the European Commission, in which Belgium warned for the first time that it will revoke the white Schengen for Serbia unless the number of false asylum seekers is reduced, should not be taken lightly.

He stressed that over the upcoming period Serbia will have to prove that it is capable of controlling migration routes and that it respects the criteria for the visa-free regime.

This means that we will take all the necessary measures. We are currently contemplating the introduction of certain limitations for those who tried to abuse the white Schengen. We will not allow few thousands of people to abuse the visa-free regime and thus jeopardise the freedom of movement for the entire nation, he underscored.
