Ciric pointed out that this is an example of a synergy between academics and the biggest companies in the electronics and information technology.

He recalled that the development of the sector of electronics, IT technology and the automotive industry is a priority for the Serbian government.

There is no better way to make progress than to invest in knowledge, the Minister said and thanked Huawei for recognising the importance of investing in the education of young people.

Yang Ge stressed that Huawei is the world leader in supplying telecommunications equipment with the broadest product portfolio.

Yang said that Huawei’s products and production solutions are in use in 140 countries worldwide by over two billion users, while the company’s overall business progress marks a 30% growth rate over the last ten years.

Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Wei Jinghua attended the award ceremony and voiced his expectation that the awarded students will play a key role in Serbia’s development and help to strengthen the ties with the most populous country in the world and the second-ranked national economy.

Jinghua voiced his hope that a number of other companies will join this initiative and endorse the economic and commercial cooperation and understanding in a multitude of different manners.

Huawei will give $2,500 to each of the five awarded students elected by their faculties.

The award was established by the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development, SIEPA agency and Huawei Company.
