Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic stated Tuesday that encouraging messages have been sent to the Western Balkans at the EU-Western Balkans Forum in Luxembourg, adding that, in the period to come, the region will face a stronger insistance on the fulfilment of all standards on the road to the EU.

Jeremic said that there was a positive atmosphere regarding the region's accession to the EU at the forum, but that the situation is more complicated compared to the accession of some other countries.

"The positive signals prevailed at the meeting, and messages to the Western Balkans were encouraging. We talked about the time to come, and we were very honest about all issues ahead of us," Jeremic said after the meeting Monday evening.

"This is not an ideal moment. The process of enlargement to the Western Balkans is not a priority of all EU member states, not even a majority of them. However, none of them strongly oppose it, which is good. There are no unsolvable problems, but the situation is far from ideal," he added.

Jeremic said that the region will face "an increasingly stricter approach, more and more nit-picking insistance on the fulfilment of all standards on the road to the EU, and in a way that others before us probably did not have to experience."

The minister said that the region and the EU share the same position and want the same thing - full EU integration of the Western Balkans.

"Both we and our European partners will continue working hard on it," Jeremic stated.
