Many German companies are striving to expand their business to markets other than that in Germany, which is why they need partners for cooperation, Treier said and added that companies from Serbia and south-east Europe region should be prepared for potential cooperation.
German companies have big plans as regards investing abroad, and their investments in Serbia could exceed several hundred million euros, deputy chief executive officer at the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) Volker Treier said on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Delegation of German Economy in Serbia.
Many German companies are striving to expand their business to markets other than that in Germany, which is why they need partners for cooperation, Treier said and added that companies from Serbia and south-east Europe region should be prepared for potential cooperation.
Serbia has a particularly favourable geographic position and it should be used with regard to the said investments, Treier underscored and announced that investments in Serbia by mid-size German companies should reach a record sum this year, depending on several factors.
He said that preparation of companies from Serbia and the region for potential cooperation with German companies would be particularly important in the domain of infrastructure, electrical engineering, ecology and green technologies. On the other hand, investments and consumption in Germany have increased, which is why Germany could be an interesting market for placement of goods from Serbia and other countries, Treier said.
When it comes to the Delegation of German Economy which has been operating in Serbia for ten years now, Treier said that the institution has entered a very good development stage and added that a German-Serbian Chamber of Commerce might open in Belgrade.
The foundation of the Chamber is a short-term plan and its realisation will depend on the development of cooperation between the two countries' businessmen, Treier said.
