Serbian Minister of Religion and the Diaspora Srdjan Sreckovic stated on Saturday that Serbia continues to adjust its economic and political system to that in Europe, while at the same time protecting its basic national interests in the same way as any other EU country would do.
The stand of Serbian President Boris Tadic regarding Kosovo and the country's European integration is statesmanlike, responsible and strategically well thought-out, Sreckovic said in an interview for the Saturday edition of the Novi Sad daily Dnevnik.
Commenting on the discrepancy between Serbia and Germany over the issue of Kosovo-Metohija and Chancellor Angela Merkel's recent statement in Belgrade, Sreckovic said that he still deeply believes that Germany, as a pillar of the EU, would continue to be Serbia's partner and ally on the path toward full EU membership.
The most important message is that the door to Serbia's European integration is wide open and having in mind Germany's influence in the EU, this message is very important for Serbia, stated Sreckovic, who also holds office as deputy leader of the Serbian Renewal Movement.
