Freedom of movement should be restored immediately by removing the roadblocks at administrative checkpoints, for the good of the local population and international missions, including KFOR and EULEX, EULEX stated Saturday.

Freedom of movement should be restored immediately by removing the roadblocks at administrative checkpoints, for the good of the local population and international missions, including KFOR and EULEX, EULEX stated Saturday.

It is required to improve the rule of law and in the interest of everyone in Kosovo, including the north, according to the statement issued after a meeting between the heads of four northern Kosovo municipalities and representatives of international missions.

The document states that EULEX Chief Xavier de Marnhac said after the meeting he expected the freedom of movement to be restored, so people could lead normal everyday lives unobstructed. The people want freedom of moverement and the rule of law, he asserted. Those who set up roadblocks should clear them. That is what the EU expects as well, he added.

This was a good and constructive meeting, an exchange of views, he noted. EULEX will continue working with KFOR to ensure the basic principles of the freedom of movement are implemented without delay, de Marnhac remarked.

The statement explains that de Marnhac and KFOR Commander Erhard Drews met with the presidents of four northern Kosovo municipalities in Kosovska Mitrovica to discuss freedom of movement as one of the basic principles according to EU standards.
