The quantity of arable land in Serbia is reduced by 25,000 hectares every year because of the construction of roads, unregistered facilities and other building, expert adviser at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Branislav Gulan told Tanjug on Sunday.

The quantity of arable land in Serbia is reduced by 25,000 hectares every year because of the construction of roads, unregistered facilities and other building, expert adviser at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Branislav Gulan told Tanjug on Sunday.

There is an illusion in Serbia that agricultural land covers about 5 million hectares, while arable land covers 4.2 million, he stressed.

"Allegedly, there are 0.56 hectares of land per capita in Serbia, which is significantly more than in Holland or Germany and represents our wealth, according to some. Realistically, we do not have that land anymore," he stated.

On the other hand, around 600,000 hectares are not cultivated, which is something developed countries do not allow to happen, he pointed out.
