Heavy snow and low temperatures across Serbia are continuing to cause problems in traffic and electricity supply on Tuesday, and one person has died during evacuation in the territory of Uzice, while the search is ongoing for two older people who have gone missing in snow drifts.
Head of the Interior Ministry's emergency situations sector Predrag Maric told Tanjug that 14 municipalities will maintain a state of emergency as long as there are forecasts of new snow, and that more roads are now passable as snow eased off on Monday.
Maric pointed out that around ten rescue operations are carried out every day and that a patient died in transport Monday in Uzice, not as a consequence of freezing but due to health problems.
He said the search for two people missing in snow drifts is difficult as snow needs to be cleared.
Temperatures are low across Serbia, with Sjenica seeing 28 degrees Celsius below zero at 6 am Tuesday.
The roads with the heaviest traffic, such as highways and interstate roads, are mostly dry and snow-free, road maintenance company Putevi Srbije has said.
