The 40th edition of the film festival Fest is running smoothly on two tracks, the main programme being comprised of hits and Oscar-winning movies, and the competition one welcoming mainly guests from the region.
On March 5, cinemagoers will have an opportunity to watch French silent movie The Artist, which scooped five Academy Awards on Sunday, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor at Belgrade's Centre Sava as part of the programme 'Fest Encore'.
Fest will also screen The Iron Lady, which earned Meryl Streep a third acting Oscar for her portrayal of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher on March 3-4. The Descendants, which won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, will be shown on February 29 and March 1 also at Centre Sava.
The Oscar-winning movies will certainly further boost the number of visitors at the 40th Fest, whose organizers already sold more than 75,000 tickets. At the same time, the competition programme “Europe out of Europe” is running at Belgrade Youth Centre, where on Monday evening film buffs will be able to see Croatian movie Spots directed by Aldo Tardozzi.
The movie was screened at festivals in Pula, Motovun, Sarajevo, but not in cinemas, as distributors are overloaded with Hollywood hits, its producers complained.
