A discussion of the EU's General Affairs Council on whether to grant Serbia the EU candidate status is underway in Brussels.

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle announced early on Tuesday, ahead of the meeting of EU foreign ministers, that Germany will give Serbia the green light for EU candidate status.

Serbian President Boris Tadic will address the press at 1.30 p.m., it has been announced in Brussels.
