The Department for War Crimes of Belgrade High Court Monday sentenced three members of the volunteer unit of the Republika Srpska (RS) Army to imprisonment of 12 to 15 years for war crimes against civilians, murder, robbery and multiple rape in Bijeljina on June 14, 1992.

Dragan Jovic was sentenced to 15 years in prison, Zoran Djurdjevic to 13, and Allen Ristic to 12 years in prison.

Court President Vinka Beraha Nikicevic said that the convicted criminals were found guilty of inhuman treatment of civilians, and that Jovic killed a man.

The three men and the prosecution are entitled to file appeals with the Court of Appeal.

This case, known as Bijeljina, was transferred by BiH to Serbia on the basis of the mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

Pre-trial proceedings had previously been held at the Basic Court in Bijeljina.
