Anti-government protesters clashed with supporters of Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh in Sanna, on the fourth day of demonstrations in Sanaa, when at least four people were injured.
President’s supporters beat two reporters in clashes that occurred near Sanaa University between students who demanded president’s resignation and and supporters of his ruling General People's Congress.
Protesters headed from the university towards Al-Sabiine square near the presidential palace, but were soon attacked by hundreds of Saleh's supporters armed with batons, stones and daggers as soon as they left the campus.
The clashes later spread to the university campus where police fired warning shots in an attempt to disperse the crowd.
Similar clashes have been taking place on a daily basis this week as protesters, inspired by uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt, demand Saleh's resignation.
Police in Sanaa intervened on Tuesday in order to disperse regime supporters and anti-government protesters, and three people were injured.
In the last two days, there were clashes between Saleh’s supporters and protesters in the city of Taez, south of Sanaa as well.
