Danube River begins to rise downstream Iron Gates dam

The Danube River flow of 10,100 cubic metres per second registered at the Iron Gates dam, where the river enters Romania, in the southwest, has prompted a rise in the water level downstream kilometre 863+358 on Friday.

According to information supplied by the Water Management System Authority based in the southwestern Mehedinti county, the river alert levels at the hydrological stations of Gruia and Calafat were passed by 12 cm and 17 cm respectively.
The local environmental protection authorities and the water management authorities are constantly monitoring the Danube so as to take prompt action in case the river overflows its banks.
The National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management issued a code yellow alert of floods on the Danube for Feb. 27 - March 1, namely in Mehedinti county, the southern Dolj and Teleorman counties as well as in Constanta and Tulcea counties (southeastern Romania).
