Chinese investors are interested in operating a Bulgarian airport under concession, Economy, Energy
and Tourism Minister Traicho Traikov told journalists on Monday.
He did not name a specific airport. He said: "One-third of the import of Chinese goods to Europe comes by air. Something can certainly land in Bulgaria for purely pragmatic reasons."
Traikov said his Ministry is planning to attract Chinese investors as partners and clients in Bulgarian industrial zones.
A delegation of the Bulgarian National Company for Industrial Zones and the InvestBulgaria Agency will travel to China in September to negotiate on the parameters of a future partnership for the management of the Bozhourishte Industrial Zone near Sofia.
The Bulgarian side will also try to attract Chinese companies as clients of the zone.
Investments in Bulgaria this year are expected to total 2,000 million euro, but not all of them will be foreign direct
investments, the Minister said.
