The procedure on registering domain .mk when opening a website has been liberalized with the new Law on the Macedonian Academic Research Network (MARnet), which enters into force by the month-end, said Deputy-Minister of Information Society Mirjana Sekulovska at Thursday's press conference.
MARnet is the national manager of Domain Name Service (DNS) for the country, tasked with registering domains, managing the network, securing a fast and safe Internet, introducing and analyzing new services and latest technologies, as well as their implementation.
MARnet was formerly part of Skopje-based University "Ss.Cyril and Methodius", but the new law regulates it as a separate public institution.
Besides legal entities, the new MARnet statute enables registration of natural persons with domain .mk.
Sekulovska stressed the national academic research networks represent a significant factor of Internet security and protection of computer crime, which was debated at the recent international conference in Varna, Bulgaria.
Macedonia will host the next conference on IT cooperation, security and computer crime.
