Bulgaria: National Security Agency agent, Interior Ministry officer arrested for trade in police information

An employee of the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and an Interior Ministry officer were arrested in a police operation in the night between Wednesday and Thursday, investigative sources told BTA.

The two are believed to have been involved in trade in police information about crime groups in the money and credit card forging business, knowledgeable sources said.

They are identified as Anton Pandev and Emil Dragomirov. The former is a SANS officer in the department working on corruption in the judiciary.The latter is an officer of the Interior Ministry's Migration Department and a former officer of the forgery unit with the Directorate General for Organized Crime
Control.

Dragomirov was arrested as he was making a payment for classified information he was supposed to receive. The two are in custody under a 72-hour warrant and have already been charged with offering a bribe, said the Interior Ministry.

They face a prison sentence of up to six years upon conviction.

Knowledgeable sources told BTA that the operation involved an undercover agent and had been on for three months before the arrests came.
