Brasov is the first city in the country where the smart grid pilot project was implemented, in an area located in the center of town, this being an innovative measure to save energy.
The project was developed by Flashnet in cooperation with Electrica SA, for which investments have been made of about 5.7 million euros. For the pilot project an area consisting of seven points for conversion was preferred, situated in the city's historical center, a difficult area because of the obsolete electricity distribution network.
According to representatives of the investor, Flashnet, the smart grid concept uses a bi-directional communication system using the existing power cables, solution that enables data transfer from anywhere in the network towards the central dispatcher.
"Based on that support a client can have access to real-time electricity consumption or can learn about the price or different information systems and Internet. Moreover, the network will be able to manage its own sources of electricity generation. Through this innovative system, Brasov will be the first digital city in the country ", said general manager of Electrica Transilvania Sud Distribution Ioan Rosca.
He also added that after the pilot testing the intention is to extend this project throughout the city in a period of up to three years
