Banja Luka and the surrounding area were hit by an earthquake at 1:30 a.m. on Friday, which did not cause any material damage.

The quake happened at a depth of 10 km below the surface and measured 4.5 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was 11km from Banja Luka.

The city is often hit by quakes, and the devastating one from 1969 was the worst in recent history.
