OSCE: Serbia on a good course, but attacks on independent media worrying

Serbia is on a good course in view of the establishing of the legal framework for free media, but the attacks on the independent media are still present, stated OSCE representative Dunja Mijatovic, on the occasion of the International Day of Media Freedom, May 3.

There is still a lot to be done in order to change the negative stance towards critical and independent media, which seems to be persisting in certain parts of the public, Mijatovic told the EurActiv portal in Serbia.
She has reminded that in the countries in transition the transfer from the state-owned to public media and the privatization of printed media always lasts long, which is in connection with the political attitude in the country.
