Greece: 48-hour strike on Tuesday, Wednesday

Public transport unions in Athens will participate in the 48-hour nationwide strike on Tuesday and Wednesday called by the General Confederation of Employees of Greece (GSEE), Greece's largest umbrella trade union organisation representing the private sector, as well as the civil servants' union federation Adedy to coincide with the medium-term fiscal strategy debate and vote in parliament.
Public transport unions in Athens will participate in the 48-hour nationwide strike on Tuesday and Wednesday called by the General Confederation of Employees of Greece (GSEE), Greece's largest umbrella trade union organisation representing the private sector, as well as the civil servants' union federation Adedy to coincide with the medium-term fiscal strategy debate and vote in parliament.
On strike will be buses, trolley buses, trams and trains. The Metro will run from 4 p.m. on Wednesday until the end of the shift to carry demonstrators wishing to participate in the protest rally at Klathmonos Square.
Only 200 buses will run to meet needs associated with the Special Olympics underway in Athens.
A union representing pharmacists said pharmacies across the country will also remain closed on Wednesday.
Air traffic controllers decided to participate in the 48-hour strike with two four-hour stoppages on both days, from eight a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday and from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday. The mobilisation is expected to disrupt dozens of flights.
