Experts and representatives of advisory bodies should work together on preserving the authenticity of Ohrid region, The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)Director General, Irina Bokova, said Sunday in the city of Ohrid.

Experts and representatives of advisory bodies should work together on preserving the authenticity of Ohrid region, The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)Director General, Irina Bokova, said Sunday in the city of Ohrid.

"There is no direct threat of erasing Ohrid form the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. However, we should be cautious, especially in regard to the heritage and its conservation...as failing to meet the set criteria could lead to erasing (Ohrid region) from the list. Yet, I believe Ohrid will keep its place on the list considering the adoption of necessary laws, long history and the cultural heritage of this beautiful city," Bokova told reporters after meeting Macedonia's Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska.

The two ladies discussed on other projects in Macedonia that enjoyed the UNESCO support, including the third religious conference, which is set to be hosted by Ohrid in 2013, along with the Summit of South East Europe Heads of State 'Dialogue among Civilizations', launched in 2003 under the initiative of late Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski and auspices of then UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura.

There is a lot of room for cooperation and Macedonia may count on the UNESCO support, Bokova said.

Yesterday, Macedonia-UNESCO cooperation was also discussed at a meeting of President Gjorge Ivanov and Bokova.

Ivanov voiced satisfaction that UNESCO listed the 50. jubilee edition of the Struga Poetry Evenings in its program for marking the anniversaries of significant events.

Reminding of the fact that Macedonia has been an initiator and first host of the SEE Summit of Heads of State 'Dialogue among Civilizations', Ivanov said the gathering had been contributing to creating new spirit of understanding and cooperation in the region.

Referring to ongoing UNESCO reforms, Bokova said the member states of the organization were responsible for preserving the cultural heritage and in that respect gave credit to Macedonia for its accomplishments to that effect, the President's Cabinet said in a press release.

He also told Bokova that at this year conference in Belgrade Macedonia would officially submit its nomination to host, in cooperation with UNESCO, the 10. SEE Summit of Heads of State in 2013.
