Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) and Republika Srpska (RS) have joined the project of creating a joint railway company between Serbia, Slovenia and Croatia, entitled Cargo 10, while Montenegro, Bulgaria and Macedonia have announced they will join too, according to what Tanjug was told at the Zeleznice Srbije (ZS) railway company.
The new company has not been formally and legally founded yet, although it has been operating since October 4, 2010, when the first freight train left from Paracin, Serbia, to Sezana, Slovenia.
The goal of the company is to reduce transport times between Ljubljana and Istanbul, raising competitiveness with other means of transport, but also in comparison to Corridor 4, an alternative route that goes through Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria.
ZS states that Cargo 10 should redirect a significant number of freight trains to the Corridor 10 railway route, as well as take over some of the merchandise transported along the Corridor 10 roads.
Cargo 10 will be an important railway company in this part of Europe and will have higher revenue than at present, ZS stated.
