Snow that has been falling throughout Bosnia non-stop for the past three days has caused traffic collapse. The southern Bosnian town of Mostar recorded 50 cm of snow which is rare given that Mostar enjoys relatively mild Mediterranean winters. In some parts of the country the mercury touched minus 29C (minus 20F) earlier this week.
Croatia's coastal resorts received an unusual covering of snow.
The southern Croatian county of Split-Dalmatia declared a state of emergency due to low temperatures and snow storms.
Traffic problems are reported in all major towns and cities in Croatia.
Europe had enjoyed a relatively mild winter up until last weekend, but a Siberian system swinging in from the east brought that to an abrupt halt.

Not wholly true. Whilst it is very cold in Istria county we don't yet have any snow, even though counties to the South of us obviously do.
The only apparent sign of disruption here is that some supermarkets relying on deliveries from Zagreb were running low on some products yesterday.
