Croatian Telecom (HT) has today put in operation the first commercial 4G network in Croatia based on LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology, which will transfer customers' data up to 10 times faster than previously, reports website Tportal.

4G base stations are located in the centre of Zagreb, Rijeka, Osijek and Split, with planned LTE networks in the future to cover other urban areas in Croatia. Services based on LTE technology, as well as coverage maps will be presented and available to users in several days.

"At HT, we intensively invest in new technology so our customers in Croatia can use advanced telecommunications services together with the most developed world markets, and are among the first in Europe and in the region. LTE, being one of the innovative technology of today, is part of our strategy and it will soon become standard in mobile communications, especially if we take into account the fact that only in the next few years the data traffic in mobile networks will grow by more than 60 per cent," said Bozidar Poldrugac, board member and Director of Technical and Information Technology at HT.
