While optimists hope that universities will recover their respectability and that issuing of PhD degrees will stop over a two-year period, when a new system is to be launched, others do not see that high education will stop being a profitable business.

The problem of Ivana S. is how to obtain a PhD degree the soonest possible. Four years ago she started master studies at a state faculty. Meanwhile everything has changed.

“With the passed seven exams and two years of master lectures I will now be in the same position as someone who has finished a four-year faculty,” she says. The only thing which makes her situation different from other students is the chance to become a PhD by September 10, 2012.
