Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dacic stated that neither the Serbian nor the Albanian issues have been solved in the Balkans, and that this is the reason for negotiations to take place, to achieve a "historical
agreement."
In an interview to Politika issued on July 31, Dacic said that the international community is unwilling to take part in the negotiations on "essential issues" and warned that the stability of the Balkans cannot be built "on the constant frustrating of some nations in the region."
He assessed that "a compromise solution (for Kosovo) no longer implies the state model issue, but perhaps some territorial questions."
Dacic also said that the idea about the division of Kosovo is not spoken about, and that it has never been put forward publicly by any state body or politician.
"The furthest compromise solution we reached in the past years is to keep Kosovo in specific relations with the rest of Serbia, and maybe even have some seats in international bodies," Dacic said, adding that it is crucial to provide the survival of the Serbs in Kosovo.
