The large fall in turnover in tourism is a consequence of low purchasing power of citizens and rising unemployment rates, since Serbia’s tourism mostly relies on domestic tourists and guests from the region.
The number of overnight stays by domestic tourist reached 2.79m between January and July 2010, dropping 15 pct compared to 2009. When it comes to overnight stays by foreign tourists, the numbers dropped by 13 pct to 780,927.
