Serbian Progressive Party deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic said in Belgrade on Sept. 22 that social and economic indicators in Serbia were proving that an early election was the only way out for the country.

Serbian Progressive Party deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic said in Belgrade on Sept. 22 that social and economic indicators in Serbia were proving that an early election was the only way out for the country.

"Every hour, Serbia's debt increases by EUR270,000 and the foreign trade deficit has reached nearly USD12 billion. Serbia has the lowest average salary in the region and is on the list of countries labeled as risky for investment," Vucic told a news conference at the party headquarters.

According to him, the number of unemployed and poverty are rising in Serbia and so-called SOS stores for the poorest citizens are being opened instead of new factories.

Vucic also said that Serbia had adopted 78 strategies in various fields, but that none of them were being implemented and the government was doing nothing other than waiting to sell telecom operator Telekom Srbija.

He announced that party officials will hold another meeting with the representatives of other opposition parties by the end of the week for the sake of uniting.
