Russia will support any stance regarding the resolution of the Kosovo problem that suits Serbian society, Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Konuzin said at a lecture held at the Belgrade School of Philosophy.

Konuzin recalled that Russia had supported the Serbian Parliament's resolution on Kosovo, and a later resolution fashioned in association with the EU at the U.N. General Assembly on Sept. 8, "which was very different from the first version."

He stressed that Russia "has taken notice of Serbia's aspirations toward EU membership" but that it "also is counting on statements by its leadership that bilateral relations between Serbia and Russia will remain intact."

He added that Russia was not forcing Serbia to choose between Russia and the EU.
